Desert Defenders

The White Tank Mountains Conservancy is proud to partner with the Central Arizona Conservation Alliance (CAZCA), Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department, and the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy on the regional Desert Defenders program. This collaborative effort is dedicated to preserving the sustainable ecosystems that all life depends on—providing clean air, cooler temperatures, habitat, food, shelter, improved water quality, and the beautiful open spaces that help our communities thrive.

Desert Defenders focuses on identifying, mapping, and removing invasive plant species within Maricopa County parks using an easy-to-use, map-based mobile app. Regular training sessions are offered throughout the county, empowering volunteers to help restore our parks, protect native habitats, and maintain the ecological health of our desert landscapes.

Together, we’re working to keep the White Tank Mountains—and all of Maricopa County’s natural areas—healthy, resilient, and wild.
