White Tank Mountains Conservancy steward and Desert Defenders Team Leader, Jim Hoffmann, visited Canyon View High School on Friday, February 10 to meet with the Future Farmers of America, or FFA, and give short presentations on invasive plant species.
The following day, Saturday, February 11, Hoffmann and fellow steward Don Swailes led the students to Areas 3 and 4 in the White Tank Mountain Regional Park for an invasive pull. When finished, the group filled 39 large trash bags weighing a total of 514 pounds!

“The Sahara mustard and London rocket were plentiful after all the rain,” said Hoffmann. “Overall, the event was successful on many levels. There were many learning opportunities and the students received sincere ‘Thank Yous’ from numerous trail users. They are hard workers and we hope to work with them again.”
